Pele, Hawaiian Goddess of creation via destruction.
Pele, Hawaiian goddess of the volcano was born in Tahiti to Haumea (an earth goddess) and Kane Milohai (creator of the sky and earth). She had six brothers and six sisters whom she was close to but had to leave because of fighting with one of her sisters, Namakaokahai (a Sea Goddess) for the love of the same man. Pele left Tahiti with the help of her brother, Kamohoali’i (the shark god). During the perilous journey, Pele carefully carried as precious cargo her favorite little sister, Hi’iaka (Hi’iaka i ka poli o Pele – Hi’iaka in the bosom of Pele) in egg-form all the way to the Hawaiian islands where she was born.
Pele settled in to create land and volcanoes and now dwells in the Halemaumau crater where the Hawaiian people pay respects and honor her as “Madame Pele” or more lovingly “Tutu Pele.”
Pele is a catalyst for change, clearing everything with aggressive fire in order to make fertile land for new life..
She comes spewing forth her deadly lava as a celebration of creation as the volcano is seen as her womb and the lava the birthing of new land as new life grows from the fertile minerals of the molten lava left behind. She creates new life out of death and destruction and as thus she is the goddess whom we can call upon when all seems futile, when you have hit rock bottom and things are awry, when you are in the midst of the fire. Trust that out of the mayhem and stripping away of all that was, peace and victory will come soon. Pele’s energy is one of purification by fire. She destroys to bring forth something new and hopeful as she helps change the landscape of our lives into more beauty, more peace and love.
Goddess Pele is a prominent figure in Hawaiian mythology and is considered the goddess of fire, lightning, wind, and volcanoes. She is also known as the creator and destroyer and is responsible for the creation of the Hawaiian Islands through her volcanic eruptions.
As a symbol, Goddess Pele represents transformation, passion, and inner strength. Her fiery energy encourages people to embrace change and let go of what no longer serves them. She reminds us that destruction can also be a form of creation and that sometimes we need to let go of the old to make way for the new.
Connecting with the energy of Goddess Pele can help people tap into their own inner strength and unleash their passions. She can help us break through our limitations and ignite our creative spark. Her energy can also help us release any pent-up emotions or negative energy and allow us to move forward with a sense of clarity and purpose.
If you're drawn to the energy of Goddess Pele, consider incorporating her into your spiritual practice. You can meditate on her image or use her as inspiration for a creative project. You can also create an altar dedicated to her and use it as a focal point for your intentions
This painting of Pele will be included in my second and sister deck of Sacred Mothers and Goddesses Collection, the inclusion of Goddess Pele in the oracle deck adds another layer of depth and meaning. Her energy can be a powerful tool for divination and spiritual guidance, helping users tap into their intuition and connect with their inner wisdom.
Whether you're drawn to her as a symbol or as a deity, Goddess Pele's energy can be a transformative force in your life. Consider incorporating her into your spiritual practice and see where her fiery energy takes you.
If you're interested in purchasing a reproduction of the Goddess Pele painting or the Sacred Mothers and Goddesses Oracle deck, they are both available for purchase. As an artist, I am honored to channel the essence of these powerful figures in my artwork, and I hope they bring inspiration and guidance to you
